Some Bodies
2005-2007 |
Some Bodies is an installation that explores found narratives of water through the physical and metaphorical overlapping and converging of photography, walking, cartography, found materials, language and color.
Living in an arid region, water can become an exotic and fleeting subject matter while water in a non-arid region can be familiar and forgettable. In these installations I have made efforts to reveal, disguise and complicate the elusively real and firmly imagined experiences of places and traces of water. From pretending to flood an interior space to creating fictional cartographies of locations where the presence of water is enveloping (islands) and seasonal (“dry” river beds) to romantic references of water for decorative purposes (paint chips), in Some Bodies I am interested in the conflating experiences of locations and how those experiences can be measured and weighed.
